Klipsch’s The Fives speakers are almost perfect. They offer gorgeous sound, a slick design that’s at once retro and modern, and tons of inputs. Their versatility in placement allows those with wall-mounted TVs more flexibility than soundbars to allow for both style and utility. I adored having them in my house for a week, and especially loved using a single remote for hi-fi TV sound.
The Klipsch amazes with such a fat bass on the first few notes, as if there was an additional subwoofer at work, but turned up too loud. The solution: The “Dynamic Bass” was activated ex works and the location equalization in the app was set to “Other”, i.e. free-standing. Especially those who place the speakers on the shelf or close to the wall should definitely change this to “corner” and deactivate the bass emphasis. Otherwise, the inherently very driving and kicking low frequency simply covers everything.
Expensive and versatile in similar amounts, these Klipsch wireless speakers offer a rich and expressive-sounding experience – although they lack a degree of nuance and subtlety. Since they first launched, other similarly specced and cheaper options have also hit the market, and you may want to give those speakers a look if you find the Klipsch too dear on the wallet.
This is a surprisingly capable piece of Hi-Fi masquerading as a lifestyle product and it can do some deeply impressive things. If you are looking for a one stop shop to handle TV work and you can feed it a USB audio signal, it really does deliver sonically. The only catch for the Klipsch is that £830 takes it to the point where stereo systems are something that can be assembled and their scope for upgrade and tweaking to your needs rather overshadow the limited (that is to say non-existent) upgrade path that The Fives offer. If you have no interest in that though, the Klipsch is a great solution that earns our enthusiastic Recommendation.

The Fives from Klipsch look and sound fantastic, with far more connectivity options than your standard pair of bookshelf speakers.

The Fives present a smooth, refined sound that’s a bit bass-heavy with slightly recessed mids and highs.

The Fives prove true left and right channels beat the pants off most soundbars, and look great doing it.
