It's pricey, but the slim, feature-rich Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is a feast for the eyes and the ultrawide monitor to beat for immersive PC gaming.

Utterly bonkers thanks to its size, specs, and price, this is the equivalent of buying a supercar to tear up the track without a care in the world. If you’re an enthusiast with deep pockets, prepare to be blown away.

As you would expect with the Quantum HDR 2000, the 2048 zone Mini LED and the 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, along with the 125% sRGB coverage, the display quality is simply outstanding. With HDR enabled, the colours are some of the best we have seen, with superb blacks, strong colours and crisp and clear text. About the only negative with the display is that we kept losing the mouse as the screen is so big, but a quick increase of the mouse cursor size solved that. Must be our ageing eyes.

The Samsung S49AG95 Odyssey Neo G9 delivers an amazing SDR and HDR gaming experience thanks to its high resolution, high refresh rate, VRR, fast response time, and 2048-zone mini LED FALD.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is an absolute monster of a gaming monitor and packs some of the most impressive tech we've ever seen in a PC display. However, the super high price and massive size will probably stop most people from ever getting their hands on it.

The Odyssey Neo G9 is Samsung's best ultra-wide monitor yet, and by a significant margin versus what came before. The reason for this is the enhanced performance of the mini-LED backlight, which leaves nothing on the table in terms of picture quality, regardless of whether it's operating in SDR or HDR mode.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 has stunning SDR and HDR performance, superb colour accuracy, great refresh rate ability and an immersive widescreen form factor. It’s not cheap and it won’t suit everyone, but it’s one of the best gaming monitors ever made.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is excellent for gaming. It has a 240Hz refresh rate with native FreeSync and G-SYNC compatibility, but there are some bugs with its VRR. It has low input lag and a quick response time, but its response time is slower than most 240Hz monitors. It also has HDMI 2.1 inputs for high frame rate gaming. It's fantastic for dark room gaming because it displays deep blacks and has a good local dimming feature.

I have high hopes for LG’s upcoming 42-inch OLED TV, but I wonder if it’s time for the company to build a true OLED PC gaming monitor as well. Maybe it could even take a page from Samsung and make it a super curved screen; I hear great things about LG’s 38-inch 3840 x 1600 curved ultrawide, but it’s pricey and not OLED. I suppose the great GPU shortage means there’s time for these companies to figure it out: I used an RTX 3080 to competently drive these screens’ 7 or 8 million pixels across the latest games, and that kind of card will likely be in short supply throughout 2022.

Just when you thought Samsung had reached the ceiling for bonkers gaming monitors, the Odyssey Neo G9 arrives. There’s nothing else quite as expansive, vision-filling or immersive for gaming, and it could genuinely replace a three-monitor setup. KVM smarts sound promising for those working across multiple computers, too. Oh, and let’s not forget the mini-LED panel is rather stunning too, if not quite as impactful as OLED in certain situations.

The $2,500 Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is an awesome super-ultrawide with eye-searing HDR, but imperfect execution holds it back from greatness.
