To these ears at least, the new Eversolo DMP-A8 is destined for the halls of greatness. Attractive and well-built, it delivers a highly musical presentation at an affordable price. The packed feature list offers great setup flexibility and customisation of the sound to suit your taste. The remarkable performance of the preamp section is simply the cherry on top of the cake.
This page is basically just some ramblings from a guy who loves music and has built systems for over 35 years. These are my thoughts, my opinions and my experience after a month with the Eversolo DMP-A8. It’s another winner from Eversolo and while it costs more than double of what the DMP-A6 costs it’s well worth it if you are serious about your music playback. This is an all in one that clicks all of the right boxes. A high quality pre amp, a high quality DAC and streaming capabilities that allow you to stream from almost any service available. All for the right price.
I’ve been enjoying all the additional features, including the I2S output to hook up my best DAC. This do-it-all gizmo is incredibly versatile. I don’t believe there is a feature that DMP-A8 doesn’t already have or won’t have shortly, like the Roon Ready certification. It possesses the most complete set of skills and features I’ve seen in a long time, especially when considering the price point. This is a slam dunk from EverSolo and I’m very excited to see what is coming next. I’ll remind you that this is a very well-made wired & wireless streamer, DAC, dedicated preamp, music server, and Roon endpoint, all performing above my expectations.
Having said this piece though, even when Eversolo doesn’t achieve absolute dominance, what it produces is still astonishingly impressive. The DMP-A8 is a genuinely innovative piece of thinking and design that asks where streamers might go next and how the next generation of audio systems might look. It sounds good, it looks good, it’s a pleasure to use and it’s a veritable Swiss Army Knife of functionality. It will do things many rivals cannot and do them extremely well. The result has to be seen as a Best Buy.
Eversolo took the audio world by storm when it launched the DMP-A6 last year. In my review of that device, I speculated that we might see additional versions beyond the base model and the Master Edition – perhaps a dedicated transport focused on digital outputs, or another version with an onboard headphone amplifier, etc. There’s still plenty of time for that prediction to come true but with the A8, Eversolo has taken its DMP platform to the next level. And then some.
