If you want a surround sound system, but don't want to futz with wires, extra channels, or the possibility of having an outdated receiver: the Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar is for you.
The Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Plus might not be as expandable as Sonos or Bose, it might not possess Sony’s support for advanced gaming and 8K content, and it suffers from a few usability issues. But it delivers an absolutely astonishing immersive 3D performance, it has plenty of connectivity options, and it’s one of the few soundbars that lets you choose your own subwoofer.
From our testing we can say that the AMBEO Plus offers very good performance, especially for a single unit design. Good front stage, satisfying Atmos and bass and convincing 3D virtual sound. It has plenty of features and a lot of connectivity options that add a lot of value and its setup and everyday use could not be easier.
Sennheiser’s bid to bring its Ambeo soundbars to a wider audience is for the most part, a rip-roaring success. While my experience with the Sennheiser’s control app might have been frustrating, it’s seriously hard to remain mad for any length of time at a soundbar that delivers as scintillating and profound a combination of power, clarity, scale and dynamism as the Ambeo Plus. Especially when that soundbar offers an upgrade path as well-matched and effective as the Ambeo Sub. There will always be a special place in our hearts for the Ambeo Max, but there’s also now a much more manageable place in our wallets, and under our TVs, for the Ambeo Plus.
The Sennheiser Ambeo Plus simplifies the process of setting up a home theater system. You don't need to deal with multiple speakers, wires, or their placement. While other soundbars might offer a more impressive surround sound experience, they come with the added complexity of setting up individual speakers.
The Ambeo Plus soundbar delivers a dynamic, room-filling sound. For the best bass performance, though, many will want to add the matching Ambeo Sub, which pushes the total package price even higher.
If you want immersive audio with your television, don’t want the wires or a forest of speakers in your living room, Sennheiser’s Ambeo Soundbar Plus delivers the goods.
I badly wish Sennheiser had gone the distance and future-proofed this $1,500 soundbar with HDMI 2.1 passthrough. If you’re not concerned with that and have an entire garbage bag worth of disposable cash, the Plus fulfills its promise of being a one-stop shop for very good home theater sound. It’s a total luxury buy, but a good one.
Remarkable scale and power from a relatively modestly sized soundbar, and a very convincing impression of spatial audio too. Sennheiser knows precisely what it’s doing with this technology, to the point that it seems perfectly reasonable for the company to slap a premium price on this product.
Easier to live with than its predecessor, the second generation Sennheiser Ambeo Plus soundbar is a terrific option for movie fans and music lovers. But gamers might want to look elsewhere…
The Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Plus is a huge TV upgrade. As a 7.1.4 channel sound system, it offers dynamic sound that gels expertly together, allowing hushed voices to swing convincingly into the rush of an action scene with ease. A sonically thrilling Ambeo mode, alongside great format support and a companion mobile app, make this a very smart buy as part of any home theater setup – if you can afford it.

It may be a more "normal" soundbar compared with the outrageous Ambeo Max, but the new Ambeo Plus impresses where it counts
