Content creators, music professionals, and audio enthusiasts can all get something out of the Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X. The German headphone manufacturer continues to set the standard for what great open-back headphones should be. Those who want something for a variety of applications may not find the DT 900 PRO X meets all of their needs, but so long as you know what to expect, you'll enjoy this headset.
The Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X is the best non-gaming headphone for gaming. With a great build, impeccable comfort, and outstanding audio, it's hard to fault
They sound amazing. Open and spacious with excellent definition. With detachable cables and replaceable components, these are a worthwhile investment. If you need seriously capable headphones the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X should be high on your list of options.
They deliver a treble-emphasised signal that offers a great tonal openness towards the higher frequencies. Rather cold and sober in the mids and discreet in the basses, these headphones serve primarily as a means of classifying subtle sound nuances in audio editing and mixing. With the DT 900 Pro X, sound purists also get an affordable and high-quality pair of headphones for the enjoyment of classical, jazz and other acoustic music. The high build quality and pleasant materials also make the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X a comfortable audio tool with good handling.
From start to finish, the DT 900 PRO X is a product that does precisely what it says on the tin: provides you with a relatively affordable, brutally honest audio solution for mixing and audio engineering. It's few – completely understandable at this price point – weaknesses can be largely avoided through the occasional listening break, a little judicious equalization, or conscientious source selection.
Building on the excellent reputation of the models that came before them, both the 700 PRO X and the 900 PRO X raise the reference headphone game to a whole new level. Whichever model you go for will ultimately depend on your preference for open or closed-back cans, but for each appropriate use case - recording and tracking on the 700’s and mixing and critical listening on the 900’s - the Beyerdynamic pedigree ensures you won’t go far wrong. While the DT 990 PRO was and continues to be an excellent choice for a mixing and reference headphone, it would seem that the DT 900 PRO X is even more so.
The DT 900 Pro X is the first serious challenger to the HD6xx and will definitely win its share of converts with its more even tonality and better low end. Yes, it is a bit brighter sounding than the HD6xx, but for some that will be a blessing as well.
It’s built like a tank, amazingly comfy, magically linear, sounds like a 4-digit headphones, and cut sounds like a champ. In fact, for this price, it’s basically a steal and if I could write long, convoluted sentences about how magical it is, I’ll just ask you to get off your desk and go listen to it at your closest audio shop. Now!
They are both fine headphones that produce the kind of naturally balanced open sound, free of quirks and colorations, that’s vital if they’re to be used for serious audio production work.
However, the Pro X seems to have a more successful soundstage than past models from Beyerdynamic, along with overall tighter handling and more cleanliness. For $299, this feels like a fairly accessibly studio headphone that will cover the needs of many creators, composers, and performers.
They have a well-balanced sound profile, and although they lack low-bass, which is common for open-back headphones, they still deliver adequate warmth and boom. Vocals and lead instruments are also clear but a little veiled, while sibilants like cymbals are bright. These headphones also have a decent soundstage that feels wide, spacious, and open. However, the soundstage has trouble creating a more out-of-head experience.
The Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X fulfil their 'studio' brief by delivering all the resolution, stability and control required to dissect a recording, but at the same time manage to convey the emotional impact of the music as well as anything we’ve heard at this level.
