In fact, for this price, it’s basically a steal and if I could write long, convoluted sentences about how magical it is, I’ll just ask you to get off your desk and go listen to it at your closest audio shop. They are both fine headphones that produce the kind of naturally balanced open sound, free of quirks and colorations, that’s vital if they’re to be used for serious audio production work.

However, the Pro X seems to have a more successful soundstage than past models from Beyerdynamic, along with overall tighter handling and more cleanliness. For $299, this feels like a fairly accessibly studio headphone that will cover the needs of many creators, composers, and performers.

They have a well-balanced sound profile, and although they lack low-bass, which is common for open-back headphones, they still deliver adequate warmth and boom. Vocals and lead instruments are also clear but a little veiled, while sibilants like cymbals are bright. These headphones also have a decent soundstage that feels wide, spacious, and open. However, the soundstage has trouble creating a more out-of-head experience.

The Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X fulfil their 'studio' brief by delivering all the resolution, stability and control required to dissect a recording, but at the same time manage to convey the emotional impact of the music as well as anything we’ve heard at this level.
