The native contrast ratio was excellent for a projector, with an average of 5,203:1 across various modes. For comparison, the second best contrast ratio we've measured recently was the BenQ HT2050A with a native contrast ratio of 2,094:1.
I’ve been using the same Anthem LTX-500 LCoS projector for 10 years now. Only a couple of other displays have challenged it in that time. The Home Cinema 5050UB is now on that list. It is one of the best projectors I’ve ever reviewed and receives my highest recommendation.
With 2600 lumens of brightness for both white light and colors, the 5050UB 4K PRO-UHD Projector is the first Epson Home Cinema series projector to offer 4K/60p playback along with HDR10, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 100% DCI P3 color space reproduction. This projector may not be a true 4K device, but its excellent optics, sumptuous colors, immersive 3D, and strong contrast make it a very impressive machine overall and Highly Recommended for anyone looking for a projector solution that doesn't cost as much as JVC and Sony's offerings.
But because of the black level performance, the Home Cinema 5050UB is at its very best in a very dark theater - or other room (typically at night). Yes, it is flexible. And it is, for now, still the best value in a high-performance projector around $3000! The HC5050UB (and the Pro Cinema 6050UB) will remain my top recommendation at this price point. That is true, at least until someone surprises me with a projector that can seriously challenge it.
The Epson Home Cinema 5050UB is a high-quality, great-performing home cinema projector that's built like a beast and while it’s not perfect, it comes pretty close.
The top-notch color accuracy and impressive all-around scores of the Epson Home Cinema 5050UB make it one of the top projectors for committed home cinema enthusiasts.
The Home Cinema 5050UB, priced at $2,999, continues this trend, offering performance and features normally reserved for projectors costing thousands of dollars more....
Epson has released a worthy successor to the popular HC 5040UB that makes subtle improvements in already superb image quality while retaining extremely high value.
