For $859 USD I think the DMP-A6 ticks all the boxes, and then some. It’s feature rich, well thought out and sounds just wonderful. It offers heaps of details, gives you a front-row seat, is easy to use and is Roon Ready. What more could you possibly want?
The best part about the DMP-A6 is that most audio-centric features of NEO Alpha were moved into a smaller and way more affordable package, dropping the price point from $3000 to $860, which makes it one of the most feature-packed units to be reviewed around here below one grand.
Playing great music, capable of moving me emotionally, through the Eversolo DMP-A6 led to very enjoyable listening sessions with plenty of toe tapping, twisting, and head nodding. Whether it was Bill Evans classics, Black Sabbath blasting, or subtle acoustic guitar from Gerard Cousins, I always wanted to hear more. That wasn’t a conscious thought process, but rather the feeling I had while listening. I didn’t want to turn the system off for the night or even for a phone call. My experience with Eversolo and the DMP-A6 was really great. Both are highly recommended.
HIGHLY recommended to those who are looking for their first streamer or even an upgrade from a Node. It also works VERY WELL in a high end reference system when used as a streamer only into your DAC of choice. This is where it shines for me. With the ability to add an SSD drive and stream just about any format this little guy has high end aspirations without the high end price
It exceeded my expectations because not only does it sound more than decent, right, i hope that it sounded decent but more than decent in my opinion for under a $1000 bucks.
Its sonic performance is excellent considering its modest price point, being noticeably less strident and shrill than its rivals. Connectivity is superb; its design effectively combines network-attached storage in the same box, greatly simplifying the user experience for many people. It even successfully addresses common issues encountered with integrating music services like Apple Music. The software proved to be stable and responsive, making it a joy to use. Overall, a big thumbs up to something that’s currently one of the great bargains of today’s digital audio world.
After spending several months with the Eversolo DMP-A6, I can absolutely see why it’s become one of the hottest hi-fi products of the year. In my view, the success lies not with its D/A conversion abilities (though that aspect certainly is formidable) but rather in the unique software experience, combined with the highly capable hardware platform and comparably reasonable price. While there are plenty of devices out there which accomplish (most of) the same tasks (on paper) I have yet to experience one that nails everything quite like Eversolo does.
By any objective standard, the DMP-A6 is a formidable new arrival. It has excellent functionality, superb usability and it's extremely well made. It combines this with a sound quality that pretty much untouchable for under a grand to produce a truly outstanding all rounder.
