The Focal Celestee is one of the best-sounding closed-back headphones you can buy. The headphones have gobs of resolution, impact, and precise imaging. More impressively, the Celestee doesn't punish listeners who have poor quality recordings. However, if you’re looking for soundstage width, you’ll have to find it elsewhere as the Celestee doesn’t project sound very far.
They offer one of their most consumer-friendly headphones and deliver the sound signature with the high standard you should be used to with the French manufacturer. It holds a unique place in the headphone market, with one of the most significant closed-back models currently available.
I’d say the Celestees are comparable in sound quality to any high-end, closed-back headphones I’ve heard. I wouldn’t say they’re for audiophiles who want to max out on detail, and they’re certainly not for bassheads—but now that I think of it, that means they’re the kind of headphones that the vast majority of listeners will enjoy.
The Focal is fun because it is able to get out of the way and deliver fast material with absolutely no trace of bloat or overhang. What you hear is what you hear, just delivered without an ounce of fat on it
While I might have some personal reservations about the sonic direction that Focal has taken the Clear MG in as a huge fan of the voicing of the original model, they have gone and made one of the most instantly easy-to-love high-end open-backed headphones with their all-new model. Tonally, the Clear MG serves up lashings of detail with a hugely balanced signature while adding a degree of richness, texture and dynamics that will no doubt convert listeners away from more analytic offerings like the Sennheiser HD800s. Oh, and I reckon it looks sensational, to boot.
The Celestee are terrific closed-back headphones. Design, build quality, and materials are all sublime. The Celestee sound detailed, balanced, and fun. The Celestee are a more reasonable priced, premium, closed-back pair of cans than the big brother Stellia. Aimed at audiophiles, they maintain their poise providing resolution, dynamics, and listenability. If an intimate soundstage and distinct blue colorway are your thing, then look no further.
If you have $1,000 USD to spend, and are looking for closed-back headphones, the Focal Celestee is worthy of consideration. These headphones follow up their striking design with decent sound and solid build quality. If you have the right-sized head, you'll never want to take these headphones off.
They have a smooth, warm sound profile. While they lack a thumpy low-bass, their mid-range is exceptionally neutral, ensuring that vocals and lead instruments are present, detailed, and clear. However, their treble is underemphasized, so voices sound veiled while sibilants like S and T sounds are dark. Since they have a closed-back design, their passive soundstage is perceived as somewhat small and as coming from inside your head rather than from out in front of you.
If you want a sound quality you only get with a pair of very expensive headphones, but do not want the sound leakage from open variants and also do not want to spend a lot of money on amplifier as well (although it is also recommended here), then you should have Celestee high on the list. Maybe at the very top.
