f I have any niggles about the Focal Chora 826 that aren't covered in the preceding text, they really come down to one thing I've praised this speaker for the most: its aesthetics. In a perfect world, I would love to see these speakers offered in finishes that more closely match their bigger brethren in the Kanta line. I dream of a Chora 826 finished in that striking Gauloise Blue/Walnut and my tasty bits start to tingle. Give me that Solar Yellow/Black High Gloss combo and I might need smelling salts.
The Chora 806 reminded me of better days spent in Paris in the 1990s. Record shopping with my brother in-law, exploring the Left Bank, and learning to sit in a café, enjoy a galette, and observe all of the beauty before me.
Focal’s Chora 826 is a textbook example of how a company trickles down its best technologies—in this case, advanced cone construction—to lower-priced products.
If the mission was to make an affordable floorstanding loudspeaker that would sound compelling in both showrooms and private listening rooms, then Focal has succeeded. The Chora 826 is far from perfect, but its sheer charm makes you want to keep on listening. It's easy to forgive its sins – which are those of omission anyway – ensuring that for buyers on a budget, this offers a lot of sound per pound.
The FOCAL CHORA 826 SPEAKERS are a reasonably-priced avenue into the Focal family. With a high-end finish and sound, they punch well above their weight class.
To sum up my feelings from listening to the Focal Chora 826 floor-standing speaker this time, it is a pair of French speakers with a distinctive musical style. Any of the advantages that you would like Focal in the past is not missing.
The addition of Dolby Atmos modules to the Chora 826-D not only provides height effects, it unifies the outputs of all six enclosures in a single, seamless, three-dimensional surround soundstage.
