There’s no question the GT220 sounds amazing, and for some people, that’s all that matters. When you factor in the battery life, wireless charging and reliable on-board controls, Grado covers all the basics with its first true wireless earbuds. However, some will want ANC to counter noisy environments, while others would like the ability to change up the touch inputs. And if you’re like me, you may have to contend with a slightly awkward fit. Grado falls just short of the complete package here, but for a company obsessed with sound quality, it delivers on nearly every promise it makes.

The brand audiophiles love has a set of new true wireless earbuds. They sound excellent, but their fit isn't for everyone.

The GT220 have some areas of true sonic expertise, but they aren't quite the no-brainer Grado might have wished for

Grado’s first TWS, the GT220, features a rich & sweet sound signature and it is quite technically capable. It offers 36 hours of juice, a sleek and professional design. It unfortunately lacks high-res codecs such as the LDAC, LHDC, UAT & an IP certificate. The polycarbonate housing feels quite durable and looks very good in matte black. The fit and comfort are very good for my ears and the fact that it has wireless charging is just perfect.

The Grado Labs GT220 has to be one of the most consistent working TWS models I tested and that alone deserves merit. The good sound they produce is a bonus and that combination makes them worth considering.

Who is the recommended customer for the Grado GT220s? An excellent question. I’m sure the product developers at Grado have an answer, but I found it rather difficult. That’s all a bit tragic because these are the most acoustically impressive true-wireless in-ears I know of, and I’d love to have that sound with me at all times. Unfortunately, Grado fails to offer some of the comfort functions that a modern headset should not be without. Neither the operation nor the range of functions comes close to the competition from Sennheiser, Sony, Apple and the like, and in terms of microphone quality, these headphones lag behind much cheaper alternatives. Nevertheless, the sound of the Grado GT220 is simply breathtaking.

Other similarly priced true wireless in-ear will do more for you - some include active noise-cancellation, most have a control app with EQ settings, and some leave onlookers in no doubt as to how much money you’ve spent. But not many have the sonic poise, fidelity or simple musicality to equal that of these Grados.
