The SR80x earns its historically positive reputation, and feels like a headphone that will continue its reign for years to come. Their signature sound is definitely clear and will not be for 100% of listeners, but the large majority will be quite impressed with the quality these provide for their price.
I like the Grado a lot more for rock, metal, and electronic music — that extra degree of swagger just pushes one over the finish line with many recordings. It’s punchy and never boring to listen to.
The Grado Labs SR80x is a niche product with a sort of studio style frequency response, intended for casual listening in quiet environments. It's not especially versatile with its open-back ear cups, however, for at home use, it's a lightweight and comfortable set that's easy to power.
