The Hisense U8G series is a bit more expensive than its predecessor, but it delivers more features and better picture quality than you'll get from any other TV in this price range.
Sleek modern design. Easy-to-use Android interface. Quick setup. Stand is high enough to top most soundbars. Excellent local dimming and solid brightness. 120-Hz refresh rate and AMD Freesync makes it great for gaming.
I think it is safe to say that the Hisense U8G is definitely an over-achiever. It improves on the H9G in most meaningful ways. The price for this tier of TV has gone up a bit, but you get performance for the premium you pay. I think the value is very much there considering the U8G’s performance. I’m looking forward to doing some comparisons in the coming months because, right now, this TV is looking like it is going to be very hard to beat for the price.
The Hisense U8G (55U8G, 65U8G) 4K ULED Android TV is a stellar QLED TV, regardless of the price. It impresses on several fronts, everything from its brightness, color and lag time to its excellent contrast and detail, the Hisense 65U8G runs the show as one of the best TVs.
Thanks to its excellent contrast ratio, high peak brightness, and great local dimming feature, it's a great choice for watching movies in a dark room. It also looks great in a bright room for watching shows or sports, and it easily overcomes bright glare, but it has a narrow viewing angle, so it's not ideal for a wide seating arrangement, as the image degrades at the sides. It has outstanding low input lag, an excellent response time, and great gaming features like variable refresh rate (VRR) support, making it an excellent choice for gaming or use as a PC monitor. Overall, it's a well-rounded TV that should please most people.
Regardless of whether you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, cinephile or an individual simply looking for a value-packed 4K TV, the Hisense U8G provides a lot of something for everyone.
TVs this bright, like the Samsung Q90A and Vizio PX, usually cost a lot more than the U8G. Meanwhile TVs at a similar price, including the TCL 6-Series and Sony X90J, measure significantly dimmer -- and the Hisense looked better with bright HDR material than those two in my side-by-side comparisons. That extra brightness also comes in handy in bright rooms. On the other hand, the Hisense's HDR performance was hampered by stray illumination and blooming, as well as lighter (worse) black levels in mixed-brightness and darker video.
The Hisense U8G is another home run from Hisense. The TV offers an excellent image quality and better built-in audio than most. There’s also tons of support for all the gaming features and HDR standards you would want in 2021, and Android TV works very well here. It’s not perfect. There are still some inconsistencies in the image, and there’s no support for Apple’s ecosystem. But in this price range, it’s easily among the best.
