The Hisense U8K Mini-LED TV is one of the most colorful TVs we’ve tested and puts out above average light for its price point. There’s room for improvement here — especially when it comes to input lag and color accuracy — but the U8K vastly improves on the Hisense U8H from 2022.
The U8K is a significant improvement over its predecessor, and one of the best TVs of the year. These would be my key takeaways if it was several hundred dollars more expensive than it is. The fact that it’s not is kind of remarkable.
Hisense went all-in on mini-LED TVs for 2023 and the U8K is its top mini-LED series. Its mini-LED tech delivers the high brightness viewers expect, while its full array local dimming offers the deep black shadows movie fans love. Best of all, it does all this at an incredibly competitive price point, making the Hisense U8K seriously good value. Google TV runs the show here for streaming and hands-free voice commands (though there is also an Alexa control option) and there is comprehensive gaming support, with dual HDMI 2.1 ports with 4K 144Hz input. There are plenty of other features that make the U8K special, and a TV well worth considering if you’re seeking out a high-value and high-performance option.
Much like the Hisense U8H I tested last year, on the U8K the three most accurate picture modes for HDR – HDR Theater, Filmmaker and IMAX modes – were essentially the same in terms of color and grayscale. I again ended up choosing Imax because the other two required tweaks to the default settings to look their best. Filmmaker engages the ambient light sensor by default, and HDR Theater does the same for the Soap Opera Effect, and in both cases I'd generally want to disable those "features."
The areas where the Hisense U8K really shines are console gaming and streaming. With the 144Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, Dolby Vision, and mini LED panel, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better TV at this price point.
The Hisense U8K is an excellent TV to watch the latest movies on. It has truly fantastic contrast, with nearly perfect black uniformity, so it looks outstanding in a dark room. Its HDR brightness is exceptional, so highlights pop next to the TV's very deep blacks. The TV is very accurate even without any calibration, so you don't have to worry about calibrating it to get an accurate viewing experience. Its low-quality content smoothing is very good, so movies played from streaming services look good even when the bitrate is low.

The Hisense U8K 4K TV is an exceptional TV that should command a premium price—but doesn’t. The two main parts that you should be concerned about a TV are the display and the software, and this TV nails both of them easily. The only real complaint I have falls to its audio department, which could be stronger, more balanced and easier to find.
Spectacular HDR highlights and colors. Excellent overall brightness. Rich contrast and black levels with minimal blooming. Solid sound quality. Good gaming features. Simple setup and usability.
If you want a TV for critical movie watching in dark surroundings with stunning dynamic range and accurate colour reproduction, then we will always point you in the direction of an OLED TV and at this price point there are some compelling models on offer. You will drop down a screen size to 55 inches to match the pricing, but here our first choice would be the LG C3. This is the perfect all-rounder with stunning HDR capabilities, superb accuracy to the standards in Filmmaker Mode, perfect blacks and contrast, four HDMI 2.1 inputs at full bandwidth and one of the best Smart TV systems on the market.

The Hisense U8K gets the important things right, but poor off-angle viewing is less forgivable at this slightly higher price than its sibling U7K.
