The Hisense U8N is great for mixed usage. It has superb SDR brightness and outstanding reflection handling, which makes it suitable for even the brightest rooms. It also looks outstanding in a dark room, with very deep blacks that stay deep when bright highlights are on screen, and watching movies or playing games in HDR is very impactful, with highlights that really pop out. Fast motion has minimal blur due to the TV's excellent response time, which makes it suitable for sports, games, or for use as a PC monitor. Unfortunately, the TV has a narrow viewing angle, so it's not a good choice for watching content in a group setting.
More ‘big specification at an eye-catching price’ magic from Hisense. If you’re willing to budget just a little for a soundbar and can scrape by with just a pair of high-speed HDMI inputs, this Mini-LED TV makes plenty of sense for the money. Its 4K images are composed and convincing, it’s a more confident upscaler than many a rival, and it covers every HDR base in some style – and with searing brightness, it must be said.
Excellent backlight control for striking black levels and contrast. Crazy high brightness. Vibrant quantum dot colors. Loaded gaming features including VRR and ALLM. Two separate HDMI 2.1 ports for connecting next-gen gaming systems. Stylish new pedestal stand. Solid onboard audio and great connectivity options. Intuitive smarts and basic setup.
I have owned the u8n for the last year. It is a very good smart TV once you get through a few bugs and programming issues.
There is a bug in SDR filmmaker mode where it doesn't work on all apps. It will also revert to theater night for no obvious reason. Because of this, I chose to use theater night as my preset, and it works well.
In hdr10 there is a bug in filmmaker mode that elevates the eotf and over brightens the image. This is found in the HDMI dynamic range setting which can be accessed with a 4k Blu-ray player. If you cycle through the settings from auto to limited to full then back to auto, it will resolve the bug. Filmmaker mode also doesn't work consistently across all apps. Because of this I chose to use HDR theater mode with the same settings as filmmaker mode, and it works well.
Hdr10+ theater mode has the most accurate color. Unfortunately, Hisense programmed it wrong by having local dimming and peak brightness turned off by default. This causes you to have poor contrast and exposes panel uniformity issues. I overcame this by setting the local dimming to high and then adjusting the peak brightness manually, and it looks good.
Finally, in Dolby Vision, I found Dolby Vision dark to be the most accurate. I tried Dolby Vision IQ, but the light sensor is too aggressive and causes the image to be too dark.

The Hisense U8N offers a robust set of features and the brightest picture we've seen for a lower price than many competing TVs.
