The LG G4 OLED is incredible for mixed usage. If you regularly watch movies in a dark room, the TV's remarkable contrast and amazing HDR brightness deliver an impactful HDR experience, but it's also suitable for use during the day or with the lights on due to its ability to overcome glare. The TV's incredibly wide viewing angle makes it a great option for watching sports or TV shows with a group, and it also has a nearly instantaneous response time for clear motion, which makes it fantastic for playing video games or watching sports. If you're a console or PC gamer, this TV is a remarkable choice due to its advanced gaming features.
For this side-by-side comparison test, we set up the G4 next to three other OLED TVs, including its direct competitor, the Samsung S95D, as well as the less-expensive LG C4 and the LG G3, the G4's predecessor from last year. The G4 looked better than the two other LG models but a bit worse overall than the Samsung, thanks to its the S95D's better bright-room image and was slightly brighter with a bit more impactful color.
If you're a big fan of cinema then LG's OLED G4 will deliver picture quality with such aplomb that your retinas will be giddy. The addition of a stand-mount option in the box for the most popular 55- and 65-inch models will only make the G series an even more obvious pick for this generation. If you're a gamer in particular then there's nothing better on the market.
The G-series from LG has traditionally been among the best OLED TVs on the market, and this year’s OLED G4 is no exception. The combination of raw and contrasting picture quality, great design and a smart user interface and good design make this an excellent overall package. This year it even comes with a foot in the box (!) – so you can quickly set up the TV. The fact that the price starts a little lower than its predecessor did back in the day is no disadvantage either.
As always you will be paying a premium price at launch for the LG G4 and if you decide this is the TV for you, it might pay to wait it out a few months for the price to start dropping. If you can afford it, the G4 is certainly worthy with stunning image quality, excellent gaming features and a very good Smart TV system. It is certainly the best choice when you want a TV that does everything to an incredibly high standard and offers almost all of the current standards and features. It is certainly our Best in Class OLED choice for those looking for a TV that covers all the bases and performs to an exceptionally high standard.
The LG G4 83" looks amazing on all content I have thrown at it, as long as I have the motion smoothing stuff turned off and Film maker mode selected, in that mode I have never felt the need to get it professionally calibrated or invest in a calibration device myself, which I am thinking about for the Monitor I use for work. I'm not really a fan of the inbuilt OS but don't really use that anyway.
I mainly stream using a PS5 through a Marantz CINEMA 70s, and this is the only gripe I really have with this TV and I don't actually think it is fully or even mainly the TVs fault, but switching inputs on the Marantz can sometimes not find a signal even if sound is coming out the speakers. I cant say 100% but it only seems to be when switching to the PS5 that there is a problem and I need to turn the TV and Receiver off and on again and sometimes use the TVs switching rather than the Receivers to get the signal displayed. My guess is a PS5 HDMI CEC bug maybe some incompatibility between that and the Marantz.
I guess the only other detractor is the price, whilst I see the value for me I can also see others not having the same point of view.
