For Mark Levinson’s first headphones, they knock it out of the park in terms of pure sound quality. It never feels like it’s doing too much, and it arrives at the perfect balance between accuracy and coloration. The ANC is one of the best I’ve ever tested, offering you great options and insanely effective isolation. While I was able to wear them for many hours with not much issue, the No.5909 can get a bit heavy. For the most part, though, you’ll be able to enjoy the headphones for a good amount of time before any considerable pressure is noticed. At $999, Mark Levinson is offering a wireless headphones of the highest standard.
While almost double the price of most Wireless ANC headphones that I’ve previously reviewed, there is no denying the premium sound quality, noise-cancellation performance, and absolute comfort that the Mark Levinson No. 5909 headphones bring to the table.
The Mark Levinson No. 5909 is very smooth and easy to listen to. If you want lower end, you can achieve it with the dedicated Mark Levinson App. If you want a more neutral tone, seek out a very neutral source and you can alter the tone a bit to lean that way instead of being highly musical and warmer than usual.
What’s truly impressive is the No. 5909’s sound when paired with the right high-res audio, especially while using LDAC and Qualcomm’s AptX Adaptive codecs for near-lossless Bluetooth streaming. While you can adjust the EQ in the app, the depth and purity of sound is great as-is. It’s some of the best, but then again, $1,000 is $1,000.
Mark Levinson No. 5909 are very exclusive headphones, which elevate wireless sound to completely new heights. The noise reduction itself is good, but still not among the best. The sound, however, is top notch.
On paper, the Mark Levinson No. 5909 are the best wireless headphones in the world, but then again, we don’t listen to measurements and measurements alone. What you get with the Mark Levinson No. 5909 headphones is a very well-rounded, fantastically engineered wireless headphone that has made the breakthrough for sound that Bluetooth headphones audiophiles have been wanting for years. Today you can have excellent sounding, comfortable, and well-made audiophile headphones of a sort that we could have only dreamed about just a few short years ago.
