Monitor Audio’s longstanding reputation of delivering great sound and solid value remains very much intact with the new Silver 7G speaker series.

If you’re shopping for an affordable three-way tower speaker that looks as good as it sounds, and sounds exactly the way a speaker of this design should—which, let’s be honest here, hasn’t always been a realistic expectation—then Monitor’s mid-line Silver 300 does exactly what it says on the tin.

More than anything else, this is a speaker that can latch onto a rhythm and deliver a performance that engages you on an emotional level

A genuine bookshelf speaker with an install-me-anywhere attitude, the Silver 50 7G is a perfect partner for a bijou amp and easy to drive, too. Low-end lovers might look warily at its 135mm bass/mid driver, but this dimpled dome puts on a fine show, helping craft a sound that's rich, deep and unfatiguing, but also responsive and detailed. Add the fashion parade looks to the equation, and it's hard not to love.

I enjoyed the Silver 300 simply because it did nothing wrong. I felt no need to gain treble detail at the price of an accentuated high end, or to accept less midrange transparency in trade for a comfortable tonal balance. Regardless of the musical genre or source, the Silver 300 did the music justice.

This is a high-end magazine, and I am used to handling loudspeakers with speaker terminals that cost less than the Monitor Audio Silver 300. And yet, this is every inch a high-end loudspeaker. It is more set to the entertainment-delivery end of the high-end world (rather than the overly cerebral), but the point of high-end shouldn’t just be about the price tag or how heavy the loudspeaker is. It should be about the sound, and it’s in the sound quality department where the Silver 300 scores so highly.

The excellent sound quality of the Silver 100 bookshelf speakers will surely meet the needs of audiophiles.

All in all, I have come away hugely impressed with Monitor Audio's new Silver 100 and could happily live with a pair.

suspect that the Silver 200’s combination of clean, dynamic sound, small size, gorgeous appearance, and excellent build quality will mean that Monitor will see a lot of them leaving the factory.

The Monitor Audio Silver 300 sets a very high standard for a modestly priced floorstander. It’s just flat-out likeable, with a level of energy that gets toes tapping and fingers snapping.

These speakers have far fewer of the drawbacks usually associated with bookshelf speakers in this price range, and are simply a delight to listen to. Every time. There is probably no better sound for the money than in the Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G.
