Onkyo has done so many things right with their latest releases and the TX-NR6100 is another example. As a whole it may not impress as much as the TX-RZ50 we tested recently but keep in mind that the NR6100 comes at a much lower price and is targeted to a completely different part of the consumer market. Being a direct replacement of the award winning TX-NR696 of 2019 the NR6100 tries to find a better balance between price and features in contrast to the RZ series which aims mostly for the enthusiast market.

The Onkyo TX-NR6100 is an entry level 7.2 channel AVR that’s capable of playing Dolby Atmos and DTS:X in a 5.2.2 setup. Alongside a host of other features, the Onkyo comes with HDMI 2.1 on three inputs, a modern user interface, control app and Web UI set up. It performed well in listening tests, producing some genuinely impressive moments, although the AccuEQ room correction system lacks the sophistication offered by competing products. Overall, the TX-NR6100 offered a solid performance, reasonable amount of power and plenty of functionality for its £899 asking price.
