Straight out of the box, I think the RZ30 is one of the most fascinating AVRs I’ve reviewed in ages. It’s not perfect, especially with regard to setup and its accompanying app. But what you get for the money is kinda wild. Full-bandwidth Dirac Live in a receiver that lists for $1200 and sells for $1100? I didn’t think we’d see the day anytime soon. It’s an incredible value.

Rather like my experience with the pricier RZ70, the RZ30 also ran into no issues driving my 4-ohm M&K speakers. I was waiting to be underwhelmed but there was none of the inherent weakness or thinness of sound which I’ve highlighted on a few of the sub-£1,000 AVRs (whether into 8- or 4-ohm loudspeakers). Moreover, although I have revelled in the warm character of the Marantz receivers, including the much pricier Cinema 30, the Onkyo offers a much more neutral presentation. This is one in which dialogue is utterly crystalline, isolated and cinematic, yet apparently devoid of colouration or a manufacturer’s imprint.

...With options like the RZ30 available you won't find this level of fidelity and a wide range of features for this price in the audiophile market - You barely see it in the home theater one. Yeah, I'm impressed and the RZ30 is highly recommeded.

The Onkyo TX-RZ30 offers a lot for its $1,199 price tag. It delivers excellent sound quality with a neutral tone that works well for both movies and music. Features like Dirac Live (Full Bandwidth version) and support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X make it a good choice for a wide range of setups. Whether you’re running a straightforward 5.1 system or pushing a more complex configuration, the RZ30 handles it all with ease, offering solid performance that punches above its price. It's a great option for those in search of an AV receiver and earns an AVS Top Choice for 2024.
