The Panasonic MZ2000 brings high brightness OLED viewing home with spectacular effect – but superb picture quality and immersive Dolby Atmos sound come at a price…
Panasonic’s peerless experience of working both with self-emissive screen technologies and Hollywood creatives joins forces in the 55MZ2000 - the most exciting new OLED technology in years gives gorgeous results here. When the only complaint you can find with a TV is that you want it to be bigger, you know it’s something special.
The Panasonic MZ2000 offers incredible picture quality, superb sound and excellent gaming performance, but clunky smart TV software and a big price tag in comparison to rivals hold it back from being the best OLED TV of the year. But make no mistake; this is still an outstanding TV.
The Panasonic MZ2000 is a superb flagship OLED TV designed for movie fans and now offers the brightness benefits of MLA (Micro Lens Array) technology mixed with proprietary heat sinks to offer up superb peak brightness and HDR playback. SDR and HDR content is accurate thanks to Filmmaker Mode out of the box, plus there is the added benefit to bright room viewing of a new light sensor and white balance adjustment that follows the creator's intent but adjusts the image to suit your environment. Peak brightness and HDR tone mapping match that of the other major flagships in 2023, with excellent HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision playback that is incredibly bright, vivid and colourful. Gaming is also good with two HDMI 2.1 ports (40Gbps) an improved game bar and an accurate True Game picture mode. It’s not perfect and there are a few slight niggles here and there, but overall, the Panasonic MZ2000 offers superb cinematic SDR and HDR image quality along with an excellent Dolby Atmos sound system and it certainly lives up to its flagship status. Highly Recommended.
Panasonic has managed to give its superb OLED flagship an MLA-powered brightness boost without diminishing its accuracy or authenticity – but do also consider the Sony A95L
If you're seeking an OLED TV that's not only among the brightest of 2023 but also comes with the best integrated sound straight out of the box, then Panasonic's MZ2000 is without rival. However, while you'll never need a soundbar, you will need to dig into various settings to offset some of the picture processing overcompensation. After which, the MZ2000 is an all-in-one sound and picture spectacular – the limited markets in which it can be purchased are lucky to have the option.
The Panasonic MZ2000 serves up all the traditional benefits of OLED, with a brighter overall picture and great picture processing for a truly cinematic performance. Add in a strong feature set and superb built-in sound, raising the bar of what a great TV looks like in 2023. It's a total home cinema package.
