The Samsung Q990D is the best Dolby Atmos soundbar you can buy in 2024. It looks similar to last year's model, but delivers better performance. The addition of HDMI 2.1 for better gaming support, overall sound mixing and Dolby Atmos performance make this the best option for buyers with the budget.
There is a lot to like about the Samsung HW-Q990D. Samsung TV owners with compatible Q-Symphony TVs will benefit greatly from this soundbar. But everyone who has the cash to plunk down on this guy, should consider it. It is a bit on the heavier side, but that is understandable, considering the number of speakers involved. Some users, in smaller spaces, might find this to be too large. There are other smaller options from Samsung that will work in smaller rooms.
The newest version of Samsung’s top-of-the-line Atmos soundbar maintains the exceptional sound quality, performance, and style of its predecessor. However, the new model comes with some added features, such as 4K/120 Hz HDMI support, making it an even more capable product. It’s an effortless recommendation for anyone seeking a high-performance soundbar solution.
The Samsung Q990D is excellent for mixed usage. This bar can do it all. It has a very balanced and neutral sound, so it sounds versatile enough for movies, TV shows, and music. It delivers thumpy and punchy bass, too, thanks to its subwoofer, and you can even customize its sound thanks to its robust sound enhancement features. This bar supports a lot of different audio formats and can play Dolby Atmos content to give you a really immersive and dimensional audio experience.
The HW-Q990D makes use of all the drivers at its disposal, seamlessly steering effects through a hemisphere of sound and realistically placing audio objects within three-dimensional space. Whether it’s Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, the result is a visceral sonic experience that adds another layer to movies and TV shows thanks to the addition of effective overhead channels.
If it is a tad too pricey, or if you just feel like saving a few bucks, you won’t miss all that much by selecting the Q990C instead. The loss of HDMI 2.1 might sting, but it’s hard to argue with saving a serious chunk of change to get the same game-changing sound. Both soundbars have an annoyingly small display unit, but it’s one of the few blemishes on an otherwise outstanding pair of systems.
Despite making no apparent hardware changes, the latest software in Samsung’s new flagship soundbar delivers a significant improvement over its already illustrious predecessor. Its sound is tighter, more detailed and even more immersive, while losing none of the colossal power and or immaculate Dolby Atmos staging Samsung’s top soundbars are known for.
This peerless soundbar system delivers Dolby Atmos and DTS:X three-dimensional audio with incredible immersion and plenty of cinematic flair thanks to rear speakers and a powerful subwoofer. The use of high-quality drivers also makes it a good choice for music fans, while gamers will be delighted by the addition of HDMI 2.1 connections that lacked in previous models. The Samsung HW-Q990D is a near-flawless package if you're seeking incredible sonic immersion.
A feature-packed flagship that offers greater immersion than any other soundbar. While installation takes a bit longer, the HW-Q990D rewards you with an amazing spatial audio performance.
The Samsung HW-Q990D is yet another entry in Samsung's long run at the top for Dolby Atmos soundbars. Not only does it have the same power and immersive capabilities as its predecessors, but it introduces long-sought-after gaming features. The HW-Q990D is the best Dolby Atmos soundbar on the market.
