Of the many products I’ve evaluated in my years of reviewing, there are precious few I can say that about. It’s a two-way speaker defined by its big, ballsy bass and fulsomely energetic midrange.
I love everything about this speaker–the heartbreakingly beautiful finishes and materials, the small footprint, the huge sound, and all the warmth and hope of my favorite music preserved in a way that makes me remember how this music sounded on the Amators, and nothing else.
After many ups-and-downs with Sonus fabers over the past decade, it warms my heart to be able to call the Electa Amator III 'the best I've heard from the brand since the original Guarneri'. Yes, it's that impressive, that commanding, that correct. Above all, it does exactly what the late Franco Serblin demanded of all his creations: it reproduces music so convincingly that the listener is transported. Bravissimo!
If you can find the patience to spend a long afternoon with the Minimas, you will be rewarded with a broad soundfield well beyond what you would expect from a small speaker. The Minimas deliver dynamics right up to the point where they can be pushed no more.
The Sonus Faber Electa Amator III speakers just may be the perfect blend of sound quality, industrial design, and old-world craftsmanship that you can find today in the stand-mount category!
If that describes your outlook, don’t hesitate to give the Maxima Amators an extended listen. Owning these Italian beauties is not something you’re ever likely to regret.
There are small speakers that can play louder, with more bass dynamics, but few that have such fine qualities on perhaps especially acoustic music. Classical and jazz, for example.
The Minima Amator II is able to go toe to toe with modern designs in most regards and it does so while looking and feeling far more attractive than almost all of them.
I would gladly own these speakers, and when the time comes to downsize it will be at the top of my list to consider as my forever speaker going into my final years.
Sonus Faber’s excellent products are already the incarnation of beauty, a dreamy boutique among speakers. It is located in Italy and has fully demonstrated the local craftsmanship level. Sonus Faber Electa Amator III has come to the third generation.

Most of all, though, Sonus faber has made a thoroughly modern time machine in the Electa Amator III.
