The Sony OLED A80L is undoubtedly an excellent choice in the OLED sector, differentiating itself with its image processing, motion management and integrated sound system. Images are extremely natural with accurate colors and excellent sharpness.
An excellent OLED for home cinema fans with its nuanced picture and sound quality that’s a step up over its rivals. It’s arguably more of what’s come before but it’s hard to critique the Sony A80L when the performance is this accomplished.
The Sony A80L might not benefit from next-gen OLED technologies and brightness, but its stellar appreciation for the finer things in AV life means it’s still hard to resist – especially if your budget can’t stretch to its ‘showier’ rivals. You just might need to control how much light is in the room.
Overall, the Sony A80L is an excellent TV for mixed usage. Its HDR peak brightness is good, so movies pop when watched in a dark room. Its SDR brightness is slightly less impressive, but the TV makes up for it with fantastic reflection handling, so the TV looks great when watching TV shows and sports in a bright room. As with all OLEDs, the TV stands out for gaming, with extremely low input lag and a nearly instantaneous response time.

The Sony Bravia XR A80L delivers the high picture quality you’d expect from an OLED and the surprisingly good sound you might not. It’s loaded with useful features, but it doesn’t always compare perfectly against similarly priced models from LG and Samsung.
If you're looking to purchase a "better than budget" level OLED that works immaculately right out of the box, the A80L should be at the top of your list.
It’s a measure of just how balanced and convincing the Sony A80L’s picture quality is that it can score the full five stars despite only having a pair of HDMI 2.1 inputs, and having an audio system that sounds better in theory than in practice. You’re allowed to be put off by either of these issues, of course - but you’d be missing out on one of the most insightful, composed and dynamic pictures around.
With its deeply impressive ability to combine the spectacular and the subtle, the A80L can more than hold its own against rivals with fancier panel technology
