The Sony STR-DH590 is a fantastic little amp. As far as sound quality, there aren’t many other entry-level receivers that sound this good. The Yamaha RX-V385 rivals the 590 in terms of sound quality, but I think the Sony 590 sounds just slightly better. Overall, if you’re main concern is sound quality, then the Sony STR-DH590 should be at the top of your list.

At least on paper, Sony's newest entry-level AV receiver, the $279 STR-DH590, is designed for someone like me.
