While the Sony UBP-X800M2 may not come with HDR10+ support or the most compact design you can get, with a good price range, great picture and sound quality along with an amazing amount of compatibility across multiple file formats it makes for an amazing Blu-Ray player. And paired with the Bluetooth Function which is ever so rare and a pretty great Dolby Vision, it may just make it as the next best addition to your home theater system.

With the variety of content I played through the X800M2, video quality was competitive with similarly priced players out there. However, the X800M2 adds in support for SACD, DVD-Audio, and HEVC video file playback, as well as HDR-to-SDR conversion, adding extra value.

The Sony UBP-X800M2 is the most versatile and flexible shiny disc player available for under $330. With accurate and neutral sound and video, it’s an ideal addition to any system.

The Sony UBP-X800M2 is a Dolby Vision capable and HDR10 compatible Blu-ray player but it has flaws in both those areas keeping this mid range in price and performance.

At $298, Sony's UBP-X800M2 is one of the most fully-featured 4K Blu-ray players in its price range, offering 4K HDR10 and Dolby Vision disc playback, hi-res audio support, and most of the same specs and features found on the company's more expensive UBP-X1100ES model.

Basic picture and sound performance are excellent. However, the key Dolby Vision implementation is flawed – plus these days it's hard to accept a mid-range deck that doesn't also support HDR10+.
