As Sony’s next-to-flagship LCD TV, the X90K series delivers impressive performance for the price. Its full-array LED backlight features local dimming for deep blacks, and its LCD panel has quantum dots for enhanced brightness and color. It’s not the brightest TV you can buy – you’ll need to step up to a mini-LED model for that – and some blooming and uniformity issues make it a lesser choice compared to OLED TVs, but the X90K’s video and audio quality, Google TV interface, ATSC 3.0 tuner, and extensive gaming features including 4K 120Hz support make it a great overall value.
The Sony BRAVIA XR65X90K offers generally very good overall HDR and SDR picture quality for a higher mid-range 4K QLED LED-LCD TV. Picture brightness isn’t quite as high as you’ll find in full-array mini-LED LCD TVs that typically offer many more for LED backlights and zones, and HDR haloing does appear in certain scenarios, but overall SDR contrast is quite good for a television of this price. Colors also pop and present P3 color gamut coverage equivalent to or exceeding that of a good quantum dot TV. The X90K television overall provides premium level TV performance from a reasonably priced 65-inch 4K TV.
Color reproduction is outstanding right out of the box, and Sony’s processing is second to none. But much of what makes this TV great can also be found in the X90J, which is more affordable. All in all, as a good all-round TV for SDR content (movies, series, sports, games, etc.), the Sony X90K is well worth recommending.
The seamlessness of use, stunning picture quality, excellent sound quality, and the difference in visual experience make it a worthy option against cheaper 65-inchers from competing brands. If budget is not an issue and you care for the experience, this TV is a safe option. You will get more affordable and even more expensive options for a big TV — but this hits the right balance.
Looking at the X90K overall we would say that it offers a more or less similar experience to last year’s X90J. It has a few improvements but also misses the mark in some areas that we thought were better in 2021.
There are details to improve such as the appearance of halos in some dark scenes, especially in HDR where brightness is boosted to the maximum. Also the viewing angle ruins the experience a bit when not viewed from the front
It's great for watching SDR or HDR movies because it displays deep blacks, makes colors look vivid, and has a good local dimming feature, but there's some blooming around bright objects. It's also good for watching shows or sports in bright rooms with a couple of lights around, but it's not as good if you place it opposite a bright window. It has a narrow viewing angle that makes the image looks washed out from the sides. Lastly, it's great for gaming because it has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for high-frame-rate gaming, variable refresh rate support, a quick response time, and low input lag for a responsive gaming experience.

Despite having none of the current crop of headline-grabbing TV technologies, the Sony X94K (and X90K too, for that matter) is money very well spent. It’s great to watch (as long as you’re sitting right in front of it) and a pleasure to use.

The X90K certainly brings a lot to the table in terms of performance and features and gets a solid recommendation from HDTVs and More
