Even before calibration, this Sony produced superb images. But calibration truly brought out the best from it in both HDR to SDR. Our samples offered slightly less luminance in HDR than expected, but that was quickly forgotten once the lights dimmed and the viewing began.
The Sony X93L is an excellent TV overall. It's great for watching shows or sports in a bright room thanks to its high peak brightness and excellent reflection handling. Thanks to its high peak brightness and Mini LED backlight, it looks great in a dark room, resulting in deep blacks with minimal blooming around bright objects. Finally, it's an amazing gaming TV with low input lag, a quick response time, and many additional gaming features, including variable refresh rate support to reduce screen tearing.

With sharp, detailed images and impressive color and contrast, the Sony Bravia XR X93L rivals OLEDs for overall picture quality. It has a distinctive design and powerful operating system with plenty of options, though some of the advanced features didn’t always improve its performance.
The Sony X93L is expensive, but it largely earns that price thanks to the company’s outstanding processing, great support for gaming, a wide breadth of personalization, and a solid overall user experience. I’m not sure it does enough to make it the better pick compared to an OLED television in every case, but it certainly does enough to make the decision difficult.
The Sony X93L is a great TV, but it’s remarkably similar to its predecessor, the X95K, in both performance and features. This makes it tough to recommend the X93L over the X95K for the folks who are shopping for a Sony-branded mini-LED TV.
