It’s rare in this line of work that I find myself lusting after an item of review equipment, but I certainly did with the Silverback 1 system. Its blend of Scandinavian cool, exemplary build and refined but accurate sound is a simply irresistible combination – in fact I ended up buying the review pair. They are ideal, whether you are seeking a chic and modern loudspeaker system for a small domestic living room, or something truly elite for a bedroom or office. I do a lot of my writing from the bedroom and it’s been enjoyable to have such an excellent sounding system to accompany my writing sessions.

System Audio puts so much thought into its loudspeakers’ looks and sonic appeal, that it is simply a pleasure to receive one of their new sets to tinker with for a few days. The SB1s are like pieces of art in themselves, sporting clean lines and a studied attention to detail. Grilles on or off, the SB1s can be equally adept as sculptures for admiring or, conversely, low-key receptacles intended just to blend in.

For its presentation to the Expert Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) earlier this year, System Audio cited World Bank data, stating that 56 percent of the world’s population lives in cities and that the average size of their living rooms is 25 square meters (269 square feet). Fortunately, my infinitely better half loves music and does not object to floorstanding speakers. If she did, I’d be looking very seriously at the Silverback 1.
