Q Acoustics 3040c Debuts as Compact Floorstander in 3000c Series

Q Acoustics has completed its award-winning 3000c loudspeaker series with the introduction of the 3040c, a compact floorstanding speaker designed for music lovers who want the scale and dynamics of a tower speaker without the larger footprint of traditional floorstanders.

Positioned between the 3030c bookshelf speaker and the 3050c floorstander, the new 3040c fills an important gap in the lineup. It targets listeners who may be ready to move beyond bookshelf speakers but don't have the space, or the desire—for a full-sized tower. At $1,099 per pair, it also gives buyers another option in the increasingly competitive entry-level Hi-Fi market.

At the heart of the 3040c are dual 4.75-inch C3 (Continuous Curved Cone) mid/bass drivers, a technology shared across the 3000c family. Q Acoustics says the C3 driver combines the bass performance of a traditional straight cone with the improved midrange clarity and high-frequency control of a flared cone, resulting in smoother integration with the tweeter while maintaining strong low-frequency performance.

The speaker also borrows technology from the company's premium Concept Series. Its 22mm hermetically sealed "floating" tweeter is mechanically isolated from the cabinet to minimize unwanted vibrations and reduce distortion. Combined with a vented rear chamber, the design allows for a lower crossover point and a more seamless transition between the bass and treble drivers.

Inside the cabinet, Q Acoustics continues to leverage several of its proven engineering solutions. Point-to-Point (P2P) bracing reinforces areas most susceptible to vibration, helping improve stereo imaging and overall cabinet rigidity. The company also incorporates its Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer (HPE) technology, which reduces standing waves and internal pressure buildup that can color the sound inside floorstanding speakers.

While performance is clearly the priority, Q Acoustics hasn't overlooked aesthetics. The 3040c adopts the clean industrial design language found throughout the 3000c and 5000 Series, featuring curved cabinet edges, concealed fasteners, aluminum stabilizers, and a recessed terminal panel that allows the speakers to be placed closer to a wall. Four finishes will be available: Satin Black, Satin White, Pin Oak, and Claro Walnut, making the speakers easier to integrate into a variety of living spaces.

The addition of the 3040c rounds out the 3000c family, which now includes three bookshelf models, two floorstanding speakers, a center channel, and a matching subwoofer. For buyers building either a dedicated stereo system or a home theater, the lineup now offers a more complete range of size and price options.

For those considering the 3040c primarily for music, its compact footprint and claimed 43 Hz to 30 kHz frequency response suggest it should provide a satisfying full-range presentation in smaller to medium-sized rooms. Home theater enthusiasts can also pair the speaker with the 3090c center channel and 3060s subwoofer to create a cohesive surround sound system.

The Q Acoustics 3040c is available now through Q Acoustics, authorized dealers, and select retailers for $1,099 per pair in the United States.

Q Acoustics Has Been on a Roll

One reason we're optimistic about the new 3040c is Q Acoustics' recent track record. Over the past few years, the company has consistently delivered products that have performed well in our testing across both traditional Hi-Fi and home theater categories.

Several models have earned CE Critic Awards, reflecting strong consensus from professional reviewers.

Notable performers include:

Product CE Critic Score Award
Q Acoustics M40 Wireless 93%           -
Q Acoustics Concept 90 Center Channel 92% Elite Award
Q Acoustics 5040 Floorstanding Speakers 90% Elite Award
Q Acoustics M20 Powered Speakers 89% Essential Award
Q Acoustics 5020 Bookshelf Speakers 89% Essential Award
Q Acoustics Q B12 Subwoofer 87%           -

While the 3040c has not yet been reviewed, we expect a high CE Critic Score; it inherits many of the same engineering philosophies found throughout Q Acoustics' award-winning lineup, including advanced cabinet bracing, carefully isolated drive units, and a focus on delivering natural, engaging sound at approachable price points.

With the company now completing its 3000c Series, expectations are understandably high. If the 3040c can deliver the musicality and value we've come to expect from recent Q Acoustics products, it has the potential to become one of the most compelling compact floorstanding speakers in its price class.
