If you are looking for a digital hub, digital source and a great DAC for under $350 the WiiM Ultra is the only piece I can or will recommend in this price bracket and even up to about $1k. To jump up from this would be with the Eversolo DMP A8 which costs 5X+ more than the WiiM (or close to it). Does the Eversolo kill the WiiM? No, it brings a couple of extra features (like hard drive space for music, larger screen, filters, heavier chassis, slicker design) but sound wise they are both excellent but different.
The Ultra isn't so much a streamer as a complete new way of making an affordable system should the fancy take you. It's staggeringly capable across its functionality and it's some detailed app tweaks away from perfection.
I can imagine countless situations in which buying one of these streamers will prove the proverbial no-brainer. Indeed, I have already heartily recommended it to a good friend who is in the process of building up a second system. Outstanding gear like the Wiim Ultra proves that you don’t need to spend big to get a product that puts a smile on your face. Operationally, the Wiim Ultra is first-class and produces lively and fun-sounding music. Buy it if you want to add quality streaming to your well-sorted budget to mid-price system. Buy it if you want to add streaming capabilities to a higher-end system for non-critical listening without breaking the bank. Buy it as the basis and heart of a system for another part of your house. Whilst it is unlikely to replace your high-end CD player or turntable, the Wiim Ultra fulfils its brief brilliantly, and I have thoroughly enjoyed having it around.
This is a crazy good value at $329 for a digital streamer that has a touchscreen display, Roon and Google Cast capability, as well as support for Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify, and others. On top of that, you get preamp and headphone amp capabilities built-in and the ability to use it as a receiver for your analog devices such as turntables, CD/DVD/Blu-Ray players, and more. Pretty feature-rich!
A baby box that offers a high-quality hi-res streamer, a moving magnet and moving coil phono input, a headphone output and the capability to form part of a whole-home multi-room wireless music system – what's not to like? The price/performance ratio of the WiiM Ultra streamer is practically off the scale – in my view, it's a superb piece of kit. Given that it's easy to use, works flawlessly, looks good and delivers excellent sound from streaming sources and vinyl alike – what's not to like?
WiiM Ultra nails streaming performance with an excellent codec implementation. Rich functionality is another plus as is the App. The new display didn't do much for me and if anything, was a bit of a negative even though in general I am a fan of such things. Headphone output is not useful for serious listening. Phono stage may be OK if noise is not an issue. Finally, Bluetooth support is a let down with lack of LDAC support.
The WiiM Ultra is a very capable digital music hub and streamer. It may not be quite as intuitive to use as BluOS or Cambridge Audio’s StreamMagic platforms, but it’s heading in the right direction. The WiiM Ultra shines turning digital files into beautiful analog music that sounds like pure magic. There is a lot to like for the money and plenty of features as well as support for most streaming services. I know WiiM will be constantly improving its app and the firmware for the Ultra, so it does offer great value for money. You can add other WiiM products—like the WiiM Mini and WiiM Pro—to build a multi-room music system around your home. Advanced functions like room compensation also work well and make the WiiM a realistic challenger to streamers from established brands like NAD, Marantz, Denon and Cambridge Audio. Shame about the lack of AirPlay support though.

Beautiful, brimming with features, and priced within reach — it could only be the Wiim Ultra.

The WiiM Ultra gives us so much flexibility for $300 bucks, that even if we don't take to the sound of its internal DAC, we can easily add our own.
