Beyerdynamic Unveils New IEMs and Studio Headphones

By: Dipin Sehdev

Beyerdynamic has just dropped a bombshell at NAMM 2025, announcing not one, not two, but four new in-ear monitors (IEMs) designed to cater to the specific needs of every musician in the band.

Specs & Features:

  • Drivers: All four models (DT 70 IE, DT 71 IE, DT 72 IE, and DT 73 IE) feature Beyerdynamic's cutting-edge TESLA.11 dynamic driver. This proprietary tech boasts a ludicrously low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of just 0.02%, ensuring pristine audio reproduction with minimal coloration.
  • Sound Pressure Level: A maximum SPL of 137dB provides plenty of headroom for even the most dynamic passages, ensuring you can hear every nuance with crystal clarity.
  • Comfort & Fit: Each model comes bundled with five pairs of silicone eartips and three pairs of Comply memory foam tips, guaranteeing a comfortable and secure fit for any ear shape and size.

Model-Specific Tuning:

  • DT 70 IE: Designed for mixing and critical listening, these IEMs offer a precise, linear tuning that follows the Fletcher-Munson curve, ensuring accurate sound reproduction at all listening levels. A high-quality, detachable cable with gold-plated MMCX connectors minimizes noise interference and provides a robust connection.
  • DT 71 IE: Drummers and bassists rejoice! These IEMs deliver powerful bass while ensuring clear reproduction of cymbals and percussion. The mids are slightly recessed, providing extra clarity and minimizing vocal bleed-through.
  • DT 72 IE: Vocalists and guitarists will appreciate the natural bass response and carefully tuned midrange. Beyerdynamic has specifically addressed the "occlusion effect" (where your own voice sounds boomy in your ears) with a targeted frequency response between 200-500Hz, ensuring a more natural and accurate monitoring experience.
  • DT 73 IE: Tailored for orchestral musicians, pianists, and keyboardists, these IEMs prioritize natural bass and midrange with precise treble overtones. A subtle boost at 5kHz enhances harmonic details, allowing you to hear every nuance of your performance.

Beyond IEMs: Studio Headphone Upgrades

Beyerdynamic also unveiled updated versions of its flagship studio headphones:

  • DT 1990 Pro MKII: These open-back headphones deliver a spacious soundstage with accurate bass response, making them ideal for mixing, editing, and mastering. The revised Tesla.45 drivers and lower 30-ohm impedance make them more compatible with portable devices.
  • DT 1770 Pro MKII: These closed-back headphones offer excellent sound isolation, making them perfect for recording and monitoring in noisy environments. The updated drivers deliver a "lively sound profile" with powerful, deep bass.

Availability & Pricing:

  • IEMs (DT 70 IE, DT 71 IE, DT 72 IE, DT 73 IE): Available in Q2 2025 at $500 USD per pair (regional pricing TBD).
  • Studio Headphones (DT 1990 Pro MKII, DT 1770 Pro MKII): Available now at $600 USD per pair (regional pricing TBD).

Who Are These For?

While these IEMs are clearly targeted at professional musicians and studio engineers, they also offer significant value for aspiring music producers and home studio enthusiasts. The level of detail and sonic accuracy provided by these IEMs can significantly enhance your listening and production workflow, allowing you to hear your mixes with unprecedented clarity.

We're incredibly excited to get our hands on these new IEMs and studio headphones from Beyerdynamic. We look forward to the reviews and CE Critic Score.
