Sennheiser and Mercedes-Benz are bringing two very different interpretations of performance together with a new partnership focused on high-fidelity audio, gaming and sim racing.
Debuting at Gamescom 2026, the first product from the collaboration is the Sennheiser HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition, a gaming-focused version of Sennheiser's closed-back HD 620S. Rather than developing an entirely new headphone, Sennheiser has taken an established audiophile model, given it Mercedes-AMG styling and paired it with the detachable HD 500 BAM boom microphone.
That's a potentially interesting foundation. The standard Sennheiser HD 620S currently carries an 84% CE Critic Score, giving the Mercedes-AMG Edition a proven starting point rather than relying on an entirely new acoustic platform.
From Audiophile Headphone to Gaming Headset
The HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition retains the closed-back design of the HD 620S, which was developed to combine passive isolation with the spacious presentation normally associated with open-back headphones.
Its dynamic driver has a claimed 6Hz–30kHz frequency response, 150-ohm impedance and 110dB SPL at 1V RMS. Sennheiser has not announced any different acoustic tuning or driver technology for the AMG Edition, suggesting the primary changes are its design and gaming functionality.
The biggest functional addition is the included HD 500 BAM microphone.
The detachable boom mic uses a 10mm cardioid condenser capsule intended to emphasize the player's voice while rejecting surrounding noise. Inline controls provide volume adjustment and microphone muting, while removing the microphone turns the headset back into a conventional wired headphone for music.
That dual-purpose approach differentiates the HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition from many dedicated gaming headsets.

How Does It Compare With the HD 620S?
The Mercedes-AMG Edition isn't being positioned as a replacement for the HD 620S. Instead, it adapts the headphone for gamers and particularly the sim-racing audience.

There doesn't appear to be a new "AMG-tuned" driver or fundamentally different acoustic system. That's probably a good thing: the HD 620S already has a solid critical reputation, and Sennheiser isn't making questionable claims about transforming the sound simply by attaching an automotive badge.
Instead, the microphone is what turns an existing hi-fi headphone into something more practical for gaming.
Why Mercedes-AMG and Sennheiser?
Of all the potential automotive and audio collaborations, this one has a reasonably natural connection.
Competitive gaming relies heavily on positional information, while sim racing adds engine notes, tire noise and other audio cues that can provide meaningful feedback to the driver. A closed-back headphone also provides passive isolation without requiring electronic noise cancellation.
“Sound is vital to our engineering philosophies,” said Christian Ern, Product Manager. “This partnership emphasizes the standard of excellence we demand when performance matters most and gamescom is the first step in transcending the thrill and precision of driving a Mercedes-Benz to a PC using sound.”
Sennheiser says the Gamescom debut is only the first step in the partnership, suggesting additional collaborations between the two brands are planned.
Pricing and Availability
The Sennheiser HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition will begin shipping in November 2026 for €399.
Sennheiser's announcement provided to CE Critic does not list official U.S. pricing, although separate reporting has put it at $449.95. Until Sennheiser confirms that figure for the U.S. market, the €399 European price is the official price supplied with the announcement.
Gamescom attendees can experience the collaboration at the Mercedes-Benz booth, where Sennheiser's audio products are being used as part of the demonstration.The HD 620 Mercedes-AMG Edition isn't trying to reinvent the HD 620S. It's taking a headphone that has already earned an 84% CE Critic Score and making it considerably more gaming-friendly.
For existing HD 620S owners, a new paint job and microphone may not provide much reason to switch. But for someone who wants a serious wired headphone for music that can double as a gaming or sim-racing headset, the combination makes considerably more sense.
