Renowned premium audio brand, Bowers & Wilkins, has taken a leap in its quest for audio perfection with the launch of the Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series S3. This eighth generation of the iconic 600 Series pushes the boundaries of high-performance loudspeakers even further, building on a legacy of excellence that spans three decades.
A Legacy of Sonic Excellence
For audiophiles and music enthusiasts, Bowers & Wilkins is synonymous with uncompromising sound quality. The 600 Series has always been pivotal in the brand's portfolio, standing as the second-longest continuously available series after the iconic 800 Series Diamond. In a time when listeners demand ever higher sound quality, whether through vinyl or high-resolution streaming, the 600 Series S3 serves as the gateway to experiencing the 'True Sound,' making it the ideal entry point into the world of Bowers & Wilkins.
A Speaker for Every Audiophile
The new 600 Series S3 introduces four distinct models, each available in a choice of finishes, including Oak, White, or Black, with an additional Cherry finish exclusively available in APAC markets. The lineup includes the floorstanding 603 S3, the standmount 606 S3, the bookshelf 607 S3, and the HTM6 S3, a dedicated center channel speaker designed for home theater enthusiasts. To complete the range, a new FS-600 floor stand is available in Silver or Black.
Innovations Derived from the Pinnacle
Bowers & Wilkins takes pride in developing and manufacturing key loudspeaker components in-house, allowing the trickle-down of innovative technologies over time. The 600 Series S3 models showcase comprehensive changes across their acoustic performance, borrowing many components from the highly regarded 700 Series S3 while featuring redesigned and improved cabinet constructions.
A New Titanium Dome Tweeter
The most significant addition to the 600 Series S3 is the introduction of an all-new tweeter dome technology: the Titanium Dome. This tweeter comprises a two-part construction featuring a remarkably thin yet rigid 25-micron main dome, reinforced by a 30-micron titanium ring. Housed within an elongated tube-loading system, inspired by the design from the new 700 Series S3, this tweeter minimizes resonance behind the dome, delivering an open sound less affected by the housing cabinet.
Additionally, the Titanium Dome incorporates a larger diaphragm mounting plate, enhancing dispersion, and boasts a sleek grille design adopted from the recently introduced 800 Series Signature. This combination of innovative technologies ensures a smoother, more refined sound without compromising resolution or detail.
Taking a Page from the Award-Winning 700 Series
The Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series S3 inherits the proprietary Continuum Cones, now featuring more potent, lower-distortion 700 Series S3 motor assemblies for midrange and bass/midrange drive units. The 603 S3 now enjoys the paper cone bass drivers with 703 S3 motor systems. Crossovers have also been upgraded with high-quality bypass capacitors from the 700 Series S3, resulting in heightened resolution and transparency.
Redefined Cabinet Construction
The cabinets of the 600 Series S3 have undergone extensive enhancements. The tweeter and main drive units are now situated closer, facilitated by intersecting trim rings to improve integration and stereo imaging. A new terminal tray, borrowed from the 700 Series S3, graces the rear of the speaker alongside a 700 Series specification bass port, heightening performance and cabinet rigidity. Enhanced internal bracing and metal threaded inserts on select models further augment the enclosure's structural integrity.
By developing these key technologies in-house, Bowers & Wilkins ensures that the 600 Series S3 continues to deliver unmatched value for money. It surpasses the competition with superior components and technologies, cementing its legacy as the reference standard in attainable yet high-performance loudspeakers.
Dave Sheen, Brand President of Bowers & Wilkins, shared his excitement about the launch, stating, "After nearly 30 years of continual evolution and improvement, we believe that the latest 600 Series S3 continues to set a benchmark in its category. Cascading key technologies down from our high-end loudspeaker ranges means everyone experiencing the new Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series will enjoy performance that genuinely delivers on our promise of True Sound and brings the listener closer than ever to the artist’s intent."
The new Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series S3 range will be available from August 23rd, offering music lovers worldwide the opportunity to elevate their listening experience to new heights.
